Azolla caroliniana

continental : We suggest to place the Azolla caroliniana where it is exposed to direct sunlight.
Avoid to expose these plants to frost. In winter replace them in the apartment or in the hothouse.

alpine : Place the Azolla caroliniana in a location exposed to direct sunlight.
The Azolla caroliniana does not tolerate cold, not even slight frosts which would damage the aerial part; for this reason it is suggested to grow them in a pot, so that they can be placed in a sheltered location during autumn and winter.

mediterranean : These plants need to be exposed to direct sunlight; in summer they can be exposed to a slight shadow without any problem.
These plants can not tolerate frost; therefore remember to cover their aerial part with frost cloth during very rigid winters.

Feed Azolla caroliniana : Fertilize water plants by using a slow-release fertilizer to be buried at their base, or we can use specific fertilizers for water plants, to be dissolved in the little lake or in the little pond in which the plants are grown. Usually these fertilizings are released regularly, during spring and summer.

continental : Grow the Azolla caroliniana in a mostly dry soil, watering only in case of long drought or in case the substrate is very dry.

alpine : The Azolla caroliniana prefers a dry soil, it does not suffer from drought; intervene and give water only during spring and summer, every 7-9 days, avoiding excessive watering, however watering the soil deeply. When the cold season starts decrease waterings or suspend them.

mediterranean : For the Azolla caroliniana waterings can be not frequent, since these plants do not tolerate an excessive humidity of the soil; therefore always allow the soil to dry out between two waterings, leaving the plants without watering also for few days.

Adversity Azolla caroliniana : At the end of winter, when the buds are still closed, we can apply a copper and sulphur treatment, to avoid fungal diseases to emerge; during the year apply specific treatments only in case there is the presence of a parasite on the plant.
