The Magnolia grandiflora var. grandiflora can generally tolerate slight frosts without any problem, therefore they can be grown in the garden without any problem.

Fertilization Magnolia grandiflora var. grandiflora : Usually trees do not need any fertilizer, since their roots are very extended in the soil and therefore they can move to search mineral salts necessary to the plant. Young trees shall be buried after having mixed a ripe organic fertilizer with the soil, or after having added a slow-release granular fertilizer.
