continental : Place the Masdevallia in a semishady place, with few hours a day of direct sunlight.
The Masdevallia prefers warm or mild climates; during spring and summer it can be placed outside, but when winter comes it is advisable to replace it inside the house.

alpine : These plants do not like to be exposed to direct sunlight for long periods.

mediterranean : These plants prefer semishady locations, but can be exposed for few hours to direct sunlight without any problem, above all during the coldest periods of the year.
Avoid to expose these plants to winter cold, growing them as houseplants.

Fertilization Masdevallia : We suggest to fertilize rather regularly, even though for most of the species it is suggested to avoid or reduce the supply of fertilizer during bloom. Use a specific fertilizer for orchids, to be dissolved in normal waterings every 15-20 days; avoiding to leave the roots soaked with the fertilizing solution for excessively long periods.

Watering Masdevallia

continental : Remember to water the Masdevallia only when the soil is dry. During waterings try to dampen deeply the substrate, avoiding to drench it excessively.

alpine : The Masdevallia prefer fresh but not soaked soils, therefore water only when the soil has been dry for few days; providing more frequent waterings in summer and avoid to give water in winter or during the coldest periods of the year.

mediterranean : The Masdevallia needs very regular and generous waterings; give a good amount of water every week from March to October, but remember to allow the soil to dry out between two waterings. During very cold months or particularly rainy periods we can avoid watering.

Treatments Masdevallia : Orchids suffer very often from roots rots, which shall be avoided with a correct growing; the presence of insects shall be eliminated immediately, avoiding to spray the product used on the flowers.
