Onoclea sensibilis - Sensitive fern

continental : Avoid too much sunny locations, preferring semishady places.
There are not big problems to grow these plants, since they can easily tolerate also very intense frosts.

alpine : For a balanced growth and in order to avoid leaves sunburns place this plant in a semishady location.
They are rustic plants that tolerate frost very well; therefore they can be grown outside all year long.

mediterranean : It is suggested to place the Onoclea sensibilis in a semishady location, away from direct sunlight for most part of the day.
This plant is very rustic and tolerate winter climate without any problem.

Fertilize Onoclea sensibilis : It is advisable to use a ripe organic fertilizer, to be buried at the base of the plant at the end of winter and at the end of summer; alternatively we can use a slow-release granular fertilizer.

continental : It is advisable regular, frequent and generous waterings. The Onoclea sensibilis prefers fresh and humid soils. In any case avoid excessive watering and decrease waterings during the cold season.

alpine : These plants like dry and well drawn soil; water regularly during spring and summer, decrease waterings in autumn. In winter we can avoid watering, leaving the soil dry.

mediterranean : Grow the Onoclea sensibilis in a mostly dry soil, giving not so frequent waterings; but avoid to keep the soil dry for too long periods, intervening every 3-4 days and watering deeply the soil. Waterings can be suspended during the coldest periods of the year.

Pests Onoclea sensibilis : Treatments are applied only in case the parasites are effectively on the plant and avoiding broad-spectrum products; we remind to avoid to apply treatments on plants in bloom, to avoid to kill also the useful insects, together with the parasites.
